The Great North Run is the largest half marathon in the world. Starting in Newcastle Upon Tyne and finishing in South Shields, this famous half marathon is well loved for its early autumn sunshine, its crackling atmosphere and of course, the Red Arrows flypast. I had already drawn the London Marathon print when the GNR was suggested to me so I already had a tried and tested way of graphically representing a mass of diverse people running. Drawing the Tyne Bridge was a little tricky at first, lots of steel and shadows to deal with but I got there in the end.
My favourite bit do draw though was the Red Arrows. Their breath taking displays at airshows always leaves me a little overwhelmed and it was a pleasure to spend time working out how to draw these and how to best do the iconic red white and blue smoke trails.
