The Supermarine Spitfire is one of Britain’s most iconic pieces of engineering. Along with the Hawker Hurricane it was instrumental in battling the Luftwaffe, which gradually turned the tide of the second world war in favour of the allied forces. Based on a pre-war racing plane, it’s beautiful outline and the roar of it’s Rolls Royce Merlin engine are still a thrill to see and hear in the skies on a sunny day.
